Constituent Concerns regarding Executive Overreach and the 119th Congress

The American people never authorized Congress to cede its constitutional authority to the Executive Branch. You were elected not to be a spectator to power, but to provide the oversight and accountability required by the public trust. When you acquiesce rather than govern, you fail in your fundamental vocation. Your authority is not an entitlement; it is borrowed from the people and remains conditional upon your performance.
Your current inaction is unacceptable. Representation requires listening to the public rather than attempting to manage its conscience. While consensus can be difficult, you possess the staff and tools necessary to discern the will of your constituents; what you lack is not capacity, but resolve. The difficulty of this work is no excuse for evading it.
As we enter this midterm election year, the public is watching. There is still time for Congress to reclaim its surrendered authority and fulfill its neglected responsibilities. To that end, I urge you to take the following immediate actions to restore the balance of power:
Reclaim Trade Authority: Rescind or amend statutes like Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act to ensure that no tariffs are imposed without an affirmative vote from Congress.
Restore War Powers: Repeal outdated Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) and exercise the power of the purse to end funding for military engagements that lack a specific, current congressional declaration of war.
Enforce Accountability: Utilize your oversight and impeachment powers to hold executive officials accountable for actions that exceed statutory authority or violate the public trust.
If you are unwilling to govern within the limits of your sworn duty, you should step aside for those who will. I urge the 119th Congress to restore its dignity and reclaim its power on behalf of the people it serves.
