An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Investigate president's self-dealing abuse of power accusations

President Trump posting on Truth Social advising his followers to buy stock immediately appears to be an egregious case of leveraging the presidency for personal financial gain. Using a public platform to signal stock buying before announcing market-moving policies is highly unethical and likely illegal. Even worse is the explicit self-dealing by touting his own company's stock before taking actions that directly benefited it. This strikes at the core of prohibitions against insider trading and violating the public trust for private enrichment. A thorough congressional investigation is absolutely warranted to examine if laws were broken. If evidence reveals the president intentionally manipulated markets and abused his power for his own company's profits, that would constitute an impeachable offense as a violation of his oath of office. Unchecked, this sets a dangerous precedent undermining faith in fair markets and threatens the economic security of all Americans who lack access to such insider insights. Congress must uphold its constitutional obligations as a co-equal branch of government to rein in these corrosive abuses and protect the integrity of the presidency.
