The proposed legislation HB 3817 seeks to criminalize gender identity expression, violating the fundamental rights of Texans. Such a law would infringe on the constitutional protections of freedom of expression and the pursuit of happiness. Trans individuals deserve the same liberties as all Americans, free from discrimination based on gender identity. Creating new criminal penalties targeting a vulnerable group is unjust and antithetical to American values of equality and liberty. I urge you to reject this harmful bill and uphold the rights of all Texans.
