243 Executive Orders. Congress Has Barely Blinked.
24 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
I’ve written to you before about this. Now a majority of Americans are saying the same thing. A PBS/Marist Poll released February 23, 2026 found that two-thirds of Americans believe the system of checks and balances is no longer working. That number has doubled since December 2024. Democrats are down 45 points, independents 34, and even Republicans have lost 19 points of faith in a system their own party controls. Mark Meulebroeck, a furniture builder from Oregon who voted for Trump in 2024, said his wife is undergoing cancer treatment, costs keep rising, and “nothing is going down in price.” Sixty percent of Americans say the country is worse off than a year ago.
The evidence backs the concern. Trump’s Supreme Court-appointed justices joined a 6-3 majority ruling his IEEPA tariffs unconstitutional. He announced new ones the same afternoon. Federal courts have ruled his administration’s warrantless home entries illegal. ICE kept doing them. He ordered military action in Venezuela without a congressional vote. He has signed 243 executive orders since January 2025, more than any president in a full four-year term since Jimmy Carter. Constitutional law scholar Kimberly Wehle put it plainly, “Donald Trump understands there’s no enforcement.”
That is where Congress comes in. We need representatives who will use the authority voters gave them. Stop any budget deal that lets the White House withhold money Congress already approved. When courts rule something illegal and the administration ignores it, hold public hearings and say so on the record. Americans are watching, and right now, they hurting.
Take action to help restore checks and balances. Challenge Trump’s reckless and impulsive policies.
