I never expected you to be a collaborator with fascism. And yet, under your watch, the Senate has granted unanimous consent 345 times—handing Donald Trump and the Republican Party an easy pathway to install judges, confirm appointees, and advance their agenda without resistance. At the same time, the Senate has repeatedly adjourned for long weekends, golf trips, and social outings—as if this is business as usual, as if democracy isn’t under siege.
This is unacceptable. The Republican Party has made it clear that they will do whatever it takes to hold power. They blocked a Supreme Court seat for nearly a year. They rammed through unqualified ideologues. They ignored precedent, abandoned rules, and burned every norm to the ground. Meanwhile, Democrats have continued to play by rules that no longer exist—granting unanimous consent to Trump’s nominees hundreds of times instead of using every procedural tool available to resist.
Enough. If you believe in democracy, if you believe in fighting for the people who elected you, then you must refuse unanimous consent on Trump’s nominees and blockade his administration to the fullest extent possible. Use the rules the Republicans have used against us. Obstruct. Delay. Grind the Senate to a halt.
This is not the time for decorum. It is the time for resistance. If you continue to grant consent to an authoritarian movement that seeks to dismantle democracy, history will remember you not as a well-meaning moderate, but as a Vichy Democrat—a collaborator who chose comfort over courage.
Do the right thing. No more unanimous consent. No more free passes. Fight.
