No Votes for CR Unless Supreme Court Rescinds Trump’s Immunity

Let’s Get Something for Democratic Cooperation on the CR Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you NOT to support the Continuing Resolution. Instead shut the government down until the Supreme Court agrees to rescind last year’s ruling granting former President Trump presumptive immunity from criminal liability for his official acts. The cowardly and disturbing decision by the six most extremist and conservative justices has set the whole country on a dangerous path to rampant criminality. It threatens the very foundations of our democracy and the principle that no one is above the law. The Court's ruling gives presidents substantial immunity for criminal conduct, including potential attempts to obstruct election results through misuse of the Justice Department. This level of protection from accountability is alarming and could embolden future presidents to act with impunity, knowing they have significant legal cover for their actions. Many civil rights organizations have rightly warned that this decision places presidents substantially above the law, and is corrosive to the very foundations of our rule of law. While the Court rejected Trump's claim of absolute immunity for all acts unless convicted after impeachment, the granted presumptive immunity for official acts and absolute immunity for some 'core' actions is still far too broad. Refusing to pass the Continuing resolution and fund the government seems to be the only way to get the Republicans to come to the table. In this case, we must, at the very least, smash the presumptive immunity ruling. We must act now to protect our democratic institutions and uphold the fundamental principle that no one, not even the President of the United States, is above the law. Vote NO, and refuse to negotiate on the CR. Shut the Government Down unless the Supreme Court rescinds Trump’s immunity. Thank you.
