An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Concerns about SAVE Act's impact on voter registration

3 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, would make it harder for millions of eligible voters to register and cast their ballots each year. Requiring documentary proof of citizenship presented in person at election offices would nullify common methods of voter registration like mail, online, and voter drives. An estimated 21.3 million Americans lack easy access to the documents this bill demands. Groups disproportionately impacted include married women who changed names, lower-income and rural residents, people with disabilities, and communities of color that rely on voter registration drives. The SAVE Act is unnecessary given existing protections against noncitizen voting under the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act. Tell Congress to vote NO on this dangerous legislation that silences eligible voters and threatens our democracy.
