Americans need diverse energy sources

I write to demand that you immediately reverse the dangerous course of cutting critical clean energy funding and instead reaffirm the nation’s commitment to expanding our energy future. This is devastating for American families. Hundreds of billions in support for solar, wind, electric vehicles, and community-based energy initiatives—not to mention the tremendous job growth they’ve generated—are being dismantled. This is not just mismanagement—it is a betrayal of working families, communities, and our economic prospects. Clean Energy Is a Job Creator—Rolling Back Funding Kills Jobs • Since the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), over 400,000 new clean energy jobs have been created across the country—spanning manufacturing, construction, and green technologies. • In 2023 alone, the energy sector added 250,000 new jobs, with 142,000 of these in clean energy • Clean energy jobs now account for 3.3 million American workers, over 40% of the entire energy workforce. In 2022, clean energy created 127,000 new jobs, representing more than 3% of all U.S. job gains. Trump’s Cuts Are Costing Real Projects & Real Workers • Trump’s administration canceled $679 million in federal funding for 12 offshore wind projects, disrupting clean power infrastructure in states like California and Maryland. • The near-complete Revolution Wind project—designed to power 350,000 homes and support 1,000 union jobs—was halted, compromising grid reliability for 15 million people in New England. • The “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” dismantled incentives for wind and solar, stalled low-income solar programs, and suppressed clean energy development across rural America. • The “Solar for All” program, intended to generate 200,000 jobs and reduce carbon emissions by 30 million metric tons, was cut—including $62 million awarded to Connecticut’s Project SunBridge. The U.S. is large and capable enough to embrace all forms of energy. Clean energy isn’t just environmentally vital—it’s economically smart. Renewables add resilience, price stability, and sustainable jobs. We cannot afford to be trapped in outdated fossil fuel systems when cleaner, more inclusive alternatives exist. You Have the Power—and the Duty—to Act You must: 1. Restore and expand clean energy funding, particularly offshore wind, solar incentives, and equitable programs like “Solar for All.” 2. Protect the Inflation Reduction Act and its job-creating provisions against repeal or weakening. 3. Defend working families and tens of thousands of clean-energy jobs by rejecting policies that favor fossil fuel interests at the expense of economic opportunity. Millions of American families depend on your leadership. Clean energy is the backbone of our economic future, and halting it doesn’t just stall progress—it threatens livelihoods, national resilience, and our global competitiveness. Do not lock us into the past. Lead us into a stronger future for America.
