De-escalate violence between Israel and Lebanon. Only this will lead to peace.

I am writing to express my urgent concern regarding the escalating violence between Israel and Lebanon. This extended round of violence begun on October 8th after Israel began its bombardment of Gaza. Israel’s bombardment was in response to the attack by the armed component of Gaza’s non-state governmental group, Hamas. The attack by this part of Hamas was and still is being used to justify the massive destruction of human lives, civilian infrastructure, local environment, and the capacity for the Palestinians in Gaza to exist. The ongoing exchange of attacks, especially following recent events, poses a significant threat of escalating into a larger military confrontation that would undeniably take far too many more innocent lives, and which must be prevented at all costs. Hezbollah's vow to intensify attacks on Israel after Israel’s killing of a senior military commander has only exacerbated the situation. In light of this, it is imperative that immediate steps be taken to deescalate the violence. One of the first and most crucial steps is to demand an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and to facilitate a complete hostage/prisoner exchange between Israel and Hamas. As a representative of our nation, which constantly claims to value peace and stability, I urge you to act on those values in Congress and demand that the U.S. government use its influence to bring sides to the negotiating table. There will be no peace through war. We cannot bomb our way to justice. It is essential to hold Israel accountable, especially given that they are acting with weapons provided by our tax dollars, and ensure that measures are in place to prevent further escalation. Please prioritize this issue and work with your colleagues to advocate for immediate diplomatic intervention. We must prevent a wider war between Israel and Lebanon, especially when such a war would undoubtedly spread to other countries in the region. The goal must be to prevent further loss of life and to promote lasting peace in the Middle East. I look forward to your work towards justice and peace.
