Join Senator Van Hollen’s Delegation to return Abrego Garcia
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
I am writing to urge you to join Senator Chris Van Hollen on his planned trip to El Salvador this week, as he seeks to address the urgent case of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia—a Maryland resident who was wrongfully deported and is currently detained in El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center.
As you may know, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled that Mr. Abrego Garcia was illegally deported and ordered the Administration to facilitate his return. Despite this, the Administration has not taken the necessary steps to secure his release, and President Bukele of El Salvador has so far refused to return Mr. Abrego Garcia to the United States, even as concerns grow for his health and safety.
Senator Van Hollen has requested a meeting with President Bukele and announced his intent to travel to El Salvador this week if Mr. Abrego Garcia is not returned by midweek. The presence of additional Senators would underscore the seriousness of this matter and demonstrate a unified commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of U.S. residents.
Your participation in this delegation would send a powerful message about Congressional oversight and the importance of compliance with court orders in matters of due process and human rights. I respectfully ask that you consider joining Senator Van Hollen’s efforts in El Salvador to advocate for Mr. Abrego Garcia’s immediate return.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
