To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to express my deep distress and outrage over the inhumane treatment of human beings—particularly children—who are suffering in detention facilities such as those in Guantánamo Bay and Panama. No child should ever be subjected to imprisonment, let alone torture, simply for existing or being born in a country deemed “wrong” by those in power. The fact that this continues to happen under the watch of world leaders is a moral failure of the highest order.
The stripping away of citizenship and basic human rights, especially since the inauguration of Donald Trump, has only exacerbated the dehumanization of vulnerable populations. These actions violate the fundamental principles of justice, dignity, and human decency. When people are caged, tortured, and treated as less than human, we as a society fail not just them but ourselves. We become complicit in the erosion of human rights and the normalization of cruelty.
I urge those in positions of power to take immediate action to end these violations. Children should not be behind bars. No person should be stripped of their humanity because of where they were born. History will judge us for how we respond to these atrocities, and I refuse to stand by in silence while people suffer under unjust policies.
To those who justify these actions: I ask you to consider what kind of world you are building—one where cruelty is accepted as policy or one where every human being is treated with dignity and respect. I choose the latter, and I demand that our leaders do the same.
