An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Oppose HR 6225 - Blanket Immigration & Visa ‘Halt Bill’

14 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

I’m writing to urge you to oppose HR 6225 (Rep. Roy) that would impose a comprehensive halt on all visa issuance and immigration status grants under U.S. immigration law. This bill represents a dangerously blunt approach that would damage our economy, undermine our international standing, and violate fundamental due process protections. As I read it, HR 6225 contains no clear criteria for when or how its sweeping restrictions could be lifted, no implementation details, and no exceptions for any category of legal immigration. This means tourists, international students, skilled workers, family members of U.S. citizens, refugees, and asylum seekers would all be barred from entering or adjusting their status. This vague and overly broad bill provides zero guidance on what happens to pending applications or how affected individuals would be notified. The economic consequences would also be severe and immediate across all sectors. Universities depend on international students who contribute billions to local economies. Technology companies, agricultural businesses, and countless other sectors rely on legal immigration to fill critical workforce needs. The tourism industry would face devastating losses. These impacts would directly affect your constituents through job losses, business closures, and reduced economic activity. Beyond economics, this bill raises serious constitutional concerns. The complete absence of due process protections and the vague conditions for lifting restrictions likely constitute improper delegation of legislative power. The blanket nature of the ban could conflict with existing immigration statutes and international treaties, creating legal chaos and diplomatic tensions with In short, the bill isn’t designed to solve specific problems but rather to shut down the entire legal immigration system. It’s an ignorant, racist, and biased Republican way to ‘solve the immigration crisis’. I urge you to oppose HR 6225 and instead support targeted, thoughtful immigration reforms that address specific concerns without dismantling the legal pathways that strengthen our communities and economy. Thank you.
