No student athlete should be required to divulge information about their menstrual cycle. It is an invasion of the right to privacy as guaranteed under Section 23 of the Florida Constitution. And, to claim that it has nothing to do with recent legislation regarding transgender students is preposterous. What happens when a female-identifying student indicates that they have never had a period? Does the school take that information at face-value and move on? Or, does it make that student the subject of ridicule and even more invasive questioning to determine whether or not they are a transgender person?
For a school system that refuses to provide sex education so that all students understand the nature of their own bodies and how they function to now insist on knowing the intimate details of those bodies is outrageous.
Please continue to work towards eliminating this invasion of privacy.
