I am deeply concerned and stunned by the priorities reflected in the House Budget. At a time when millions of Americans are struggling, this budget prioritizes tax cuts for the wealthy while slashing essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP—lifelines that keep people housed, fed, and healthy.
How does making vulnerable people sicker and increasing hunger make the United States a stronger country? These cuts will devastate families, seniors, people with disabilities, and those battling illness. They will not create opportunity; they will only deepen suffering.
A significant number of military families rely on SNAP and Medicaid because their incomes are too low to meet basic needs. Cutting these benefits would directly harm those who serve and defend this nation. It is unacceptable that those who sacrifice for our freedoms are being abandoned in the name of budget reductions.
Budgets reflect values, and this one fails to uphold the principles of compassion, fairness, and responsibility to those in need. America should not be a country that prioritizes tax cuts for the wealthy over the well-being of its most vulnerable people. It is time to reject policies that punish those already struggling and instead invest in solutions that strengthen communities and create real opportunity for all.
