Urgent Call to Protect Legal Immigrants in Accordance with Christian Principles

I am writing to express my deep concern about reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under the current administration is detaining and deporting legal immigrants and, in some cases, even American citizens. Such actions not only violate legal rights but also run counter to the core teachings of Jesus Christ, who called on us to care for the vulnerable and to act with compassion and justice.
Jesus consistently taught us to welcome the stranger, protect the helpless, and stand up for those who cannot protect themselves. Deporting individuals who have followed the legal process and established lives here—especially elderly individuals, families, and those with deep community ties—goes against these fundamental Christian values.
The story of Luis Leon, an 82-year-old legal resident who was wrongfully deported while attempting to replace his green card, highlights the human cost of these policies. His family was left devastated and misled, suffering unnecessary pain because of these unjust actions.
As people of faith and conscience, we are called to uphold justice and mercy. Deporting legal residents and citizens without due process violates both the law and the moral imperative to protect those in need.
I urge you to:
Launch a thorough investigation into ICE’s practices regarding the detention and deportation of legal immigrants and citizens.
Support legislation that strengthens protections for legal immigrants and prevents wrongful deportations.
Advocate for policies rooted in justice, compassion, and respect for human dignity, in line with the teachings of Christ.
Our nation’s strength lies in its commitment to fairness and the protection of all its people. Please stand up for these values and ensure that immigration enforcement reflects the compassion and justice we all aspire to.
Thank you for your leadership on this vital issue.
