Build stronger, safer communities for all VA residents.

Immigrants make our communities stronger. They are neighbors, workers, students, business owners, and friends who contribute to the fabric of our communities. But today, immigration raids are disrupting our communities and creating a culture of fear. That undermines the safety and well-being of all residents and the economic prosperity of our state.
As our state’s leader, you have the power to protect immigrant families and uphold the values that are vital to our democracy. As your constituent, I urge you to take immediate action to:
1. End harmful enforcement practices.
-End collaboration between U.S. immigration enforcement agencies, other federal agencies, and local law enforcement. Under the Trump administration, every agency—even the U.S. Postal Service and IRS Special Investigators—have been pulled into immigration work.
- Speak out against the dramatic expansion of immigration detention. Under the administration’s current plans, 46 states would have at least one detention facility, increasing the number of detention beds from 44,000 to 150,000. No one should be detained.
-Oppose policies that lead to racial profiling of immigrants.
2) Safeguard access to essential services.
-Guarantee immigrants can safely access government services and benefits regardless of status.
-Protect the confidentiality of immigrant families seeking services.
3) Protect our schools and communities.
-Urge local school districts to implement policies protecting students and families from immigration raids.
-Ensure schools remain safe havens for all children.
4) Refuse to order the use of our state’s National Guard for immigration enforcement.
-Decline the use of the National Guard using your power as governor.
-Support legislation limiting how our state’s National Guard can be used.
As someone who firmly believes in the inherent worth and dignity of every person, I call on you to lead with these values. People come to the United States to find work, to feed their families, and to protect the ones they love. There is room for everyone here.
Please speak out publicly in support of policies that welcome immigrants and recognize them as vital members of our communities. Your leadership can help build stronger, safer communities for all residents of our state.
