NEPA is Not A Bargaining Chip

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge NO COMPROMISE on any aspect of the National Environmental Policy Act as part of the budget reconciliation bill. Corporate polluters have long wanted to shield themselves from public criticism and weaken requirements on protective statutes. This must not happen. The NEPA law is is about free speech and procedural fairness. We can't protect the environment without these ideas. We can't protect people without these ideas. Your pro-polluter colleagues with chemical and fossil fuel interests will listen to these whispered entreaties by lobbyists, but their actions will harm people, and chip away at the foundations of fairness of people vs. big business. Tell your colleagues in Congress to sit down and shut up on this law. No compromise on NEPA. Thank you.
