Oppose Rollback of CAFE Fuel Economy Standards

I am writing to urge you to oppose the Trump administration's proposed rollback of Corporate Average Fuel Economy standards. This policy reversal would harm American families economically and medically while benefiting oil companies at our expense. CAFE standards set minimum fuel efficiency requirements for new vehicles based on automakers' fleet averages. These standards incentivize manufacturers to increase electric vehicle production, giving consumers more fuel-efficient options. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin now seeks to dramatically reduce these requirements to push automakers back toward gas-powered vehicles and away from EVs. This rollback forces Americans to pay twice for a policy that serves corporate interests rather than public health. First, we will spend more at the pump as fewer high-efficiency models are available. Second, we will pay more for healthcare as air quality deteriorates. Increased vehicle emissions directly contribute to asthma, respiratory illnesses, and cardiovascular problems. These are preventable health costs that will burden families and our healthcare system. Americans want clean air and lower costs, not more subsidies for oil companies. The current CAFE standards protect both our health and our wallets by encouraging innovation in fuel efficiency. Rolling them back moves us backward on both fronts. I urge you to publicly oppose this rollback and support maintaining strong fuel economy standards. Please advocate for policies that prioritize constituent health and economic wellbeing over fossil fuel industry profits.
