Concern over Pacific Gas & Electric's Rate Increases

I am writing to express my deep concern and dissatisfaction regarding the recent and impending rate increases in Pacific Gas & Electric's (PG&E) bills. As a constituent, I am troubled by the financial burden this places on households across our state, especially given the already challenging economic circumstances many are facing.
It’s disheartening but not surprising that PG&E, a for-profit public utility, that prioritizes shareholder interests over the welfare of its consumers as evidenced by its stock buybacks, amounting to billions over the past two decades can get away with such rate hikes for negligence on their part with ignoring fire prevention & maintenance that resulted in multiple fires in the state of California since 2017. Camp Fire/Paradise(2018), Kincade Fire(2019), and Dixie Fire(2021) are some notable examples. The people of California should not have to bear the financial consequences of PG&E’s incompetence and negligence.
The noticeable increase in my monthly bill and the prospect of additional hikes in March 2024 only exacerbate the financial strain on individuals and families, making it imperative for immediate intervention.
Furthermore, I strongly believe that it is time to explore the possibility of transitioning towards a publicly owned utility that prioritizes the interests of consumers over profit margins. Publicly owned utilities have the potential to ensure that essential services are provided in a manner that is both affordable and accountable to the community.
I understand that you, as our elected representative, have the power to voice our concerns and advocate for policies that protect the well-being of your constituents. I believe that your active involvement in addressing this matter will not only benefit the community but also enhance your standing among voters who are closely watching how elected officials respond to their needs.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
