Restore oversight to Presidential Office. Records should not be shielded.

I am writing out of deep concern over the White House classifying DOGE as an entity insulated from public records and judicial intervention. They have reorganized Musk’s office to ‘fall under the Executive Office of the President’ and be ‘subject to Presidential Records’, which will shield it until at least 2034.
This is a gross corruption of power. Musk himself has said “There should be no need for FOIA requests. All government data should be default public for maximum transparency.” And yet now, they have declared him immune from such requests in an effort to conceal their actions.
While the law still requires the Presidential Office to keep written materials, and archivist approval to dispose of documents, President Trump has fired the archivist, Colleen Shogan, without cause. This leaves the Office without any form of oversight on records or materials.
Trump has historically been known to destroy documents within the Office of the President. The public needs transparency and oversight for a healthy democracy. President Trump and Elon Musk cannot be allowed to be exempted from the basic protections afforded to the people, to ensure their leaders are acting in their interests. Shrouding the highest levels of office in secrecy displays a profound lack of accountability to the public for whom they serve.
I urge my people of Congress to take action to oppose these tyrannical grabs for unchecked power. Americans need you to restore order and transparency to the Office of the President, and whomever that may encompass.
Our democracy is counting on you to prevent it from slipping into totalitarian regime. Thank you for fighting for us.
