Migrants in U.S. custody are being abused, and I urge you to take action. A bombshell report from Human Rights Watch, titled “You Feel Like Your Life Is Over,” has exposed horrifying conditions at ICE detention centers in Florida. Immigrants suffer routine medical neglect, physical assaults, and endless isolation. The Guardian confirms detainees in Miami face filthy, overcrowded cells and retaliation for speaking out. Even ICE officials admit many centers are plagued by horrible conditions, according to USA Today. As your constituent, I urge you to launch immediate investigations into the horrifying cruelty taking place at ICE detention centers. Hold those responsible for these crimes accountable, and demand additional oversight to make sure the constitutional rights of immigrants in detention are no longer violated.
