An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Defend National Museum's Integrity, Halt Artifact Removal

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The removal of historical artifacts from the National Museum of African American History and Culture is deeply concerning and threatens to erase valuable parts of our nation's story. These exhibits, like the Woolworth's lunch counter from the Greensboro sit-ins, are powerful symbols of the struggles and triumphs in the fight for civil rights and equality. Returning items of profound historical significance, such as the Bible used during the Civil Rights Movement, robs us of opportunities to learn from the past. We cannot allow divisive political agendas to distort or diminish the importance of preserving this vital cultural heritage. The museum was established to truthfully examine all aspects of the African American experience - the achievements as well as the injustices. Removing these artifacts is an attack on that mission and an insult to the sacrifices made to advance human rights. As a society, we have a responsibility to protect and share this history, not bury it. The museum's role is to foster greater understanding, not cater to narratives that ignore harsh realities. I urge you to take action to stop this purge and defend the museum's integrity as a beacon of truth.
