Congressional Condemnation and Investigation of Espionage Against Our Allies

I am writing as your constituent to express grave concern about recent reports that U.S. intelligence agencies, under the direction of the Trump administration, engaged in surveillance activities targeting Greenland’s independence movement and its relationship with Denmark. Even more troubling are allegations that individuals directly connected to Donald Trump conducted covert influence operations on the island, seeking to build networks of supporters and potentially destabilize Greenland’s ties with Denmark.
Denmark is not only a close NATO ally but also a trusted partner in global security. To spy on Greenland and interfere with Denmark’s sovereignty undermines both our credibility and our national interests. Danish leaders, including Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, have stated unequivocally that “we do not spy on friends.” The diplomatic response—summoning the U.S. ambassador and issuing formal warnings—makes clear that this behavior has damaged trust at the highest levels.
It is unacceptable for any administration, past or present, to direct U.S. intelligence resources against democratic allies. It is equally unacceptable for politically connected individuals to carry out shadow operations abroad that blur the lines between private interference and state-sanctioned espionage. Such actions not only weaken our alliances but also embolden adversaries who benefit from divisions between the United States and Europe.
I strongly urge you to:
• Publicly condemn espionage and covert interference against Greenland and Denmark.
• Demand a full congressional investigation into Donald Trump’s role in directing or enabling these activities.
• Pursue legislation that strengthens oversight of intelligence operations to prevent abuse for political or personal agendas.
Our democracy and our alliances depend on integrity, transparency, and accountability. Turning a blind eye to this behavior would only deepen the damage. I ask that you stand firmly for democratic values and ensure the United States never again targets trusted partners in such a reckless manner.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your response and to seeing you act decisively on this issue.
