Oppose the “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling” Executive Order

I am writing to express my deep concern about the new executive order, “Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling.” This order threatens fundamental rights, undermines critical thinking, and promotes discrimination under the guise of education reform. Forcing a narrow, nationalistic ideology in schools restricts academic freedom and infringes on families' personal beliefs. Banning discussions of racism, gender, and historical injustices does not erase these realities—it only prevents students from engaging in honest, fact-based learning. Children deserve an education that prepares them for the real world, not one that censors uncomfortable truths to push a political agenda. The order’s vague and subjective language around “discriminatory” or “anti-American” content creates the potential for widespread financial retaliation, jeopardizing federal funding for schools. This could devastate education budgets, harming all students. The provisions promoting so-called "patriotic education" while downplaying systemic biases prioritize ideology over educational integrity. Additionally, the order’s restrictions on social transitions for transgender youth and its provisions to conceal information from parents raise serious privacy and human rights concerns. Medical decisions should be made by doctors, patients, and families—not dictated by the federal government. The framing of gender-affirming care as "chemical mutilation" is not only misleading but also dangerously misinformed. Rather than imposing a top-down political agenda, our schools need adequate resources and the flexibility to design curricula that accurately portray America's complex history and diverse identities. Healthy classroom discussions strengthen democracy by teaching students to evaluate multiple perspectives using reason and evidence.
