An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Strike Sections 1217 and 219: No U.S./Israel Military Partnership

274 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

Under no circumstances should the United States government expand its partnership or cooperation with Israel. Not militarily. Not economically. Not industrially. Not technologically. Public support for arming Israel has fallen, yet Congress continues handing money and weapons to a genocidal apartheid state for the slaughter of Palestinians while people here struggle to afford basic necessities. As your constituent, I demand that our hard-earned tax dollars go toward feeding, housing, healing, and educating every person in this country. Strike Section 1217 from the Senate’s FY2027 NDAA and reject its House counterpart, Section 219, in full. These provisions would expand joint military research, weapons production, and incorporation of Israeli technology into U.S. military systems, creating deeper dependencies that could make ending this partnership more difficult. Fifty-six civil society organizations, including Amnesty International USA, the National Lawyers Guild, and Arab and Jewish advocacy groups, have urged Congress to reject these provisions. Heed their warning. Reject Section 622 of the FY2027 Intelligence Authorization Act and any attempt to attach it to the NDAA. It would mandate expanded intelligence sharing with Israel and impose additional requirements on decisions to restrict it. Congress must preserve our ability to end cooperation. Join Senators Van Hollen, Sanders, Merkley, Welch, Markey, and Warren in demanding scrutiny and votes on these provisions. Introduce or cosponsor amendments to remove them, demand recorded votes, and oppose advancing or passing any final NDAA that retains them. Keep them out of the negotiated House–Senate bill. Cosmetic wording changes that preserve the policy are unacceptable. I expect a public commitment and a written explanation of your actions to secure their removal. Statements of concern are insufficient. I will not support elected officials who continue arming Israel and deepening this partnership. This applies to House Reps as well once the legislation returns to the House. No means no. Take every available legislative action to block this now.
