Texas students deserve better!

I am writing once again to remind you of something that should not need repeating: the United States Constitution clearly establishes a separation of church and state. This principle is not optional, not negotiable, and not subject to the personal whims of politicians. So why is Attorney General Ken Paxton trying to force public school students of every faith—and of no faith—to recite the Christian Lord’s Prayer? This is not his authority to grant. Public schools are meant to be a place where children learn math, reading, science, empathy, history, and civics—not how to practice Christianity. Forcing one religion into the daily lives of students not only violates their First Amendment rights, it also divides and excludes children who come from Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, Indigenous, atheist, and countless other backgrounds. Public schools must serve all Texas children, not just the ones who happen to share the Attorney General’s faith. The hypocrisy here is staggering. Texas leaders expect everyday people to follow the law, while those in power openly defy the Constitution they swore to uphold. This cannot stand. I demand an answer: why is Ken Paxton—and by extension, Texas leadership—using public schools as a platform for religious indoctrination? And when will you fulfill your duty to defend the rights of every child in this state? Our children deserve better. Texas deserves better. The Constitution demands better.
