Restore democratic integrity: Address undue financial influence in government

I write to you as a concerned citizen regarding one of the most pressing issues facing our republic today: the growing influence of concentrated wealth on our democratic processes.
Our nation was founded on the principle that government should be responsive to all citizens, not just those with financial means. However, the current landscape of campaign financing and lobbying threatens this fundamental ideal. When large donors and corporate interests can leverage their financial resources to gain disproportionate access and influence, the voices of ordinary Americans are diminished.
I respectfully urge you to consider supporting measures that would:
1. Strengthen transparency requirements for political donations and expenditures
2. Establish reasonable limits on campaign contributions from all sources
3. Create ethics reforms that minimize conflicts of interest, including reconsidering direct stock ownership by members of Congress
4. Reduce the outsized influence of professional lobbying on the legislative process
This is not a partisan issue. Citizens across the political spectrum share concerns about the integrity of our democratic institutions. Polling consistently shows that Americans of all political affiliations worry about the role of money in politics and support meaningful reform.
The legitimacy of our government depends on public trust that elected officials act in the best interest of their constituents rather than narrow special interests. By championing reforms that protect our democratic processes from undue influence, you have the opportunity to strengthen that trust and fulfill the highest ideals of public service.
I appreciate your consideration of these concerns and would welcome the opportunity to discuss this matter further.
