School voucher

As a Texas taxpayer, I am deeply concerned about the proposed education savings accounts, which would divert state funds to private schooling. This approach risks exacerbating the already pressing issues of deficit budgets, minimal teacher raises, and potential school closures in our public schools. The dissatisfaction with public schools' response to the pandemic and their approach to teaching certain subjects should be addressed through comprehensive reform, not by draining resources. I am not in favor of school vouchers because they will weaken public schools. A well-educated public is a benefit to all Texans. Therefore, it is crucial to prioritize the improvement of public education, including increasing salaries and enhancing teacher preparation, to address the teacher shortages exacerbated by low pay and excessive overtime. I urge you to reconsider the allocation of state funds and focus on strengthening our public schools instead.
