Support Legislation to Expand the House of Representatives (H.R. 622)
23 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
The current cap on House of Representatives members, set at 435 since 1929, needs to be updated and reflect the growth and diversity of our nation. Our house districts have ballooned to roughly one representative per 765,000 residents from 1 per 210,000 in 1929. This ratio puts us far outside the norm for Western democracies. “The People’s House” should be closer to the people it represents.
The REAL House Act, H.R. 622, proposes an increase to 585 members following the 2030 census, with a method for determining numbers in future censuses. This expansion would ensure a more accurate representation of our diverse population. It also includes a requirement for the Architect of the Capitol to study and address the logistical needs of a larger House. This bill, awaiting potential votes in the House Administration, Judiciary, or Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, deserves your support. An expanded House is a more representative House. Please vote in favor of H.R. 622.
