I am one of your constituents, the group that you are supposed to represent. I'm writing to express my anger and disappointment at the firing of all federal civil servants still on their year-long probation. There are almost 200,000 people impacted by this thoughtless executive order; good, hardworking people who were hired fairly and under their own merit across the country.
Even worse, this is the latest in a scourge of practically overnight lay-offs of tens of thousands of hardworking civil servants who swore to serve their country in their respect roles: from NOAA to USAid to NIH to CFPB, there are too many impacted departments to name, too many civil servants lost to rationalize, and too many casual cruelties through revocation of federal funds for vital services to comprehend.
How are you, as a representative of the people, going to protect civil servants from unjust and retaliatory firings like this?
How are you, as one of the three branches of government, protecting the legislature and ensuring that the executive branch isn't destroying the careful system of checks and balances of American democracy?
How are you, someone sworn in to serve the country, ensuring that you are indeed serving the best interests of the country and not bowing to someone who can most honestly be described as a felon and frankly a fascist? From banning anything to do with gender ideology, to dismantling public education, to getting rid of the opposing party, the current administration seems to be using 1930's Germany as a checklist rather than a shameful period to learn from and never repeat.
As a constituent, I demand to know how you plan to support America, rather than a figurehead focused on destroying everything that makes us great.
I am distraught, disappointed, dismayed, and to be honest, angry that it has come to this. Every day I wake up and see another piece of our democracy torn out.
I look forward to hearing back from how on how you plan to protect democracy and support your constituents.
