Investigate Abuse and Disappearance of ICE Detainees

I’m writing to express deep concern and outrage over the documented abuse and alarming disappearance of detainees in ICE custody.
Following the closure of the so-called “Alligator Alcatraz” detention camp, over a thousand men who were held there remain unaccounted for. Hundreds have vanished from ICE databases entirely. The Department of Homeland Security has failed to provide transparency or adequate information about these individuals, including those transferred to facilities like the CECOT prison in El Salvador, where many remain missing.
Reports have documented over 500 human rights violations in ICE facilities—including sexual assault, medical negligence, and mistreatment of children and pregnant people. Transgender detainees have been deliberately excluded from reporting, placing them at heightened risk. Families and legal advocates are struggling to locate loved ones who were detained by unidentified federal agents, and DHS has failed to account for the record-high number of deaths in custody, including that of a former DACA recipient.
This is a humanitarian crisis and a moral failure. I urge you to launch immediate oversight investigations into these abusive ICE detention practices. We must ensure that all detainees are safe, accounted for, and afforded their due process rights. The United States has a legal and ethical obligation to uphold human rights, especially for those in its custody.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter.
