Oppose Casey Means' Nomination as US Surgeon General

I am writing to urge you to oppose the nomination of Casey Means for US Surgeon General. Her appointment would be dangerous for public health at a time when we face a measles outbreak and need credible medical leadership. Casey Means has a lapsed medical license and has built her career as a wellness influencer rather than a practicing physician. This alone disqualifies her from leading the nation's public health efforts. The Surgeon General must be someone who maintains active medical credentials and stays current with evidence-based medicine. More concerning is her history of promoting misinformation about childhood vaccinations. At a time when measles cases are rising due to declining vaccination rates, appointing someone who has spread vaccine misinformation would undermine public confidence in immunization programs that have protected generations of children. Measles is highly contagious and can cause serious complications including brain damage and death. We need a Surgeon General who will strengthen vaccine confidence, not someone whose past statements have contributed to vaccine hesitancy. The Surgeon General serves as America's doctor, providing the public with the best scientific evidence on health matters. This position requires someone with impeccable credentials who prioritizes peer-reviewed research over pseudoscientific remedies. Casey Means does not meet this standard. I ask that you publicly oppose this nomination and vote against her confirmation if it reaches the Senate floor. Our communities deserve a Surgeon General who will protect public health based on sound medical science, not someone who has promoted dangerous misinformation that puts children at risk.
