Unilateral executive action to delay or cancel appropriations is unlawful

Trump has recently written an executive order to cut funding to public broadcasting. The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is a private nonprofit corporation through which federal funding flows to support nearly 1600 local public radio and TV stations across the country. Over 70% of CPB’s federal funding goes directly to local stations as operating grants. The rest supports stations in other ways by funding shared technical infrastructure, paying music royalties, assisting stations in growing state and local news coverage, investing in news, new national programming, and many other essential areas. Loss of funding would endanger the entire public media system of local stations that’s been created over the past 60 years and now serves 99% of Americans with free programming. And the way, I understand it, unilateral action by the executive branch to delay or cancel appropriations is unlawful. Please hold him to account! And take back the power of the purse. Don’t abdicate your power. We need you to be a co-equal branch! And while you’re at it Support public broadcasting, please.
