I am concerned about the alarming elimination of expertise and experience in our intelligence agencies. Firings and elimination of whole departments within us intelligence agencies has lead to an erosion of trust in U.S agencies among our closest allies as well.
The consequences of this erosion of trust are severe. With experienced leaders departing from the FBI's national security, counterterrorism, foreign intelligence, and cyber divisions, we face an increased risk of missing critical threats. The systematic dismantling of America's intelligence credibility is leaving us increasingly isolated in the global intelligence community. Several alarming events have contributed to this crisis:
1. The public alignment with Vladimir Putin and betrayal of Ukraine.
2. The suspension of intelligence sharing with Kyiv.
3. The exposure of an undercover CIA officer's name by DNI Tulsi Gabbard.
4. Reports of purges of intelligence analysts deemed 'insufficiently loyal'.
5. Potential betrayal of U.S. informants in a deal with El Salvador's President.
These actions not only compromise our national security but also betray the trust of allies and informants we have promised to protect. It is crucial that Congress takes immediate action to restore integrity to US intelligence institutions, strengthen US cyber security capabilities, and rebuild trust with our international partners. I urge you to support increased oversight of intelligence agencies, protect whistleblowers, and advocate for policies that depoliticize our intelligence community.
The United States must uphold its alliances and do everything possible to protect intelligence officers and informants. Our national security and global cooperation depend on decisive action to address these critical issues.
