An open letter to State Legislatures (N.Y. only)

Community Midwifery Bill S7078/A7898

202 so far! Help us get to 250 signers!

Dick Gottfried has introduced S7078/A7898 Community Midwifery Bill and it is currently in the Higher Ed. Committee. I ask that you vote to pass it in the new session beginning in Jan. 2022. N.Y. has an undeniable need for community midwives. We suffer from a lack of providers, maternity care deserts, and maternity centers closing. The disparities are great with women of color dying at a rate 8-12x that of white women. NY is ranked #30 in the country and we have the worst maternal morbidity and mortality of any developed nation in the world. CPMs are recognized in 37 other states and NY needs to get on board with the rest of these states and recognize the incredible contribution CPM's make to birthing families. CPMs are recognized medical professionals with the best maternal and fetal outcomes and safety. I ask the following: 1. A meeting between NY CPM and your office to discuss this bill 2. Co-sponsor this bill 3. An affirmative "Aye" that you’ll support this bill Thank you!
