I am writing to you today as a constituent who has benefitted from the amazing culture of academia in America. We have three times as many Nobel prizes as the next country (Germany) because of our administrations understanding for the need to support academia and research.
Yet, the current administration has declared an attack on health and biomedical research, climate change and anything remotely related, and more by freezing funds, banning key words, and overall expressing their disdain for research. RFKJ's peddling of conspiracy theories goes directly in the face of well-known, beneficial medicines such as vaccines, which save hundreds of American lives each year by preventing deadly diseases such as measles, which is currently spreading in Texas.
To the point, the golden age of science and research will be lost in America, but not lost in the world. Just like America has done to other countries, the tide of scientific, intelligent minds, will shift as they apply to jobs elsewhere and emigrate to new countries.
Is this what you want to support? Do you not want to ensure that America is ahead in research, a shining "city on the hill" in academia, a candidate for so many Nobel prizes? Why are you allowing the administration to hamstring so many professionals who have worked hard to improve American lives, truly "making America great?"
What actions are you taking to prevent the loss of American exceptionalism in science and academia? What are you doing to protect researchers, scientists, professors, universities, and others from the loss of funds and attack on their work?
What are you doing to stop ideological attacks on knowledge, something that happened in 1940's Germany?
As your constituent, I beg you to stand up for knowledge and research before it's too late.
