H.R. 5636 - Discriminatory Legislation Harming Transgender and Intersex Youth The proposed "Protect Children's Innocence Act" (H.R. 5636) raises serious concerns regarding the rights and well-being of transgender youth. Criminalizing gender-affirming care for minors, including puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and gender-affirming surgeries, would deprive these individuals of essential medical treatment supported by major professional organizations. Denying access to such care increases risks of depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation among an already vulnerable population. Furthermore, allowing "corrective" procedures for intersex traits without patient consent promotes non-consensual medical interventions. This legislation disregards medical consensus and infringes upon the fundamental rights of transgender and intersex minors to access appropriate care. I urge reconsideration of this discriminatory proposal that compromises the health and autonomy of these young people.
