An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Mich. only)
Opposition to Bills HJR U, HB 6018 & SJR I

As your constituent, I am writing to strongly urge you to vote NO on HJR U, HB 6018, and SJR I. These legislative measures threaten fair representation and the preservation of our constitutional rights in Michigan.
House Joint Resolution U and House Bill 6018 would fundamentally alter the nomination process for the Secretary of State and Attorney General, moving away from direct public nominations at state party conventions. By drastically shifting the power to select candidates for these crucial offices, this legislation threatens democratic accountability and dilutes the voice of everyday Michiganders.
Furthermore, I am asking you to oppose SJR I. The proposed changes under this joint resolution would undermine fundamental protections that guarantee fair and balanced governance for our state.
These bills collectively represent an overreach that disrupts established democratic norms. Instead of pushing resolutions that alter fundamental constitutional structures and election processes, I urge you to focus on legislation that supports everyday working families, protects voting access, and ensures government transparency. These proposed bills are especially concerning after the recent MDP convention where the People of Michigan made it clear that their choice of constituent is drastically different than the establishment status quo. These proposals are a clear attempt to take voting power from constituents and, if passed, a clear step toward fascism.
I respectfully request that you oppose HJR U, HB 6018, and SJR I. I look forward to hearing your position on these critical issues and how you plan to protect our democratic processes.
