An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Executive Overreach On Spending Must be Halted

55 so far! Help us get to 100 signers!

Pausing federal loans, grants, and financial assistance is extremely concerning and could have devastating impacts. Congress allocates funding through the lawful budgeting process. An unilateral freeze by the executive branch undermines the separation of powers and disregards Congressional authority over spending. It puts vital programs at risk - from Medicare that millions rely on for healthcare, to research advancing scientific understanding. This overreach jeopardizes support systems many Americans depend on. Governing through unilateral orders subverts democratic processes. I urge you to condemn these actions by assert your congressional authority over budgeting and calling on the administration to reverse course on this unlawful freeze. The executive branch must respect Congress's constitutional power over spending decisions that affect us all.
