I am writing to express my utter disgust at the corrupt settlement of Trump’s contrived IRS lawsuit, with its absurd Anti-Weaponization Fund to be established to reward illegal, and in some cases treasonous, behavior.
The fund, to be established without Congress’s approval or oversight, and as part of a “settlement” between two non-opposing parties under the president’s direct control, also out of range of judicial review, is perhaps the most egregious of Trump’s ubiquitous abuses of power.
He should be impeached or removed under the 25th Amendment for this, but failing that I expect Congress to take whatever steps it can, and the judiciary to rule where it has jurisdiction, to stop this travesty: The House can add Articles of Impeachment about this outrage to the long list already compiled. The Senate can find ways to stop any further business from taking place, by using the filibuster and other means.
It’s my understanding that there may be some procedural daylight in the way the settlement terms were not included in the motion to dismiss the case “with prejudice,” which may render them unenforceable. Congress and the judiciary should work together to explore that. Pursue all avenues to block this deeply corrupt deal. Thank you.
