Stop Weaponizing Federal Forces: Why Trump's Admin Fails the 1776 Test

10 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!

When the Founders drafted the Declaration of Independence, they explicitly condemned King George III for having "affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power"—turning armed force into a personal tool to punish colonies that stood up to him. Today, this administration is reviving that exact abuse of executive power. Federal agencies are increasingly deployed not as neutral instruments of justice, but as tools to settle political scores and intimidate local populations. In Noem v. Vasquez Perdomo, the administration convinced the Supreme Court to permit immigration stops based on apparent race, language, and neighborhood—treating basic human traits as automatic grounds for suspicion. When federalized troops and armed agents sweep through American cities, citizens and lawful residents are caught in the dragnet alongside non-citizens. Winning an election does not grant a President a personal force to police domestic political rivals. Government power exists to protect equal rights, not to carry out a leader's personal vendettas. Look at how current actions follow the old royal playbook: - King Rule #1: Target Political Enemies. Federal prosecutors pursued retaliatory cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James—both ultimately tossed by a federal judge. The message to public servants is clear: cross this White House, and the Department of Justice will target you personally. - King Rule #2: Terrorize Target Communities. Armed federal forces have been deployed into major American cities—including Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, Memphis, New Orleans, and Washington D.C.—selected for their politics rather than crime metrics. A federal court struck down the Los Angeles deployment as unlawful, and the Supreme Court rejected the attempt to force troops into Chicago. - King Rule #3: Punish Disobedient States. Just like an 18th-century monarch withholding resources from disobedient provinces, this administration ties federal funding to political submission. DHS leadership publicly threatened Governor Pritzker's federal funding in Illinois, while the administration abruptly stripped $10 billion in child care support from five Democratic-led states in a clear act of economic retaliation. We are a constitutional republic, not a kingdom. The constitutional role of federal law enforcement is to uphold equal justice, not to act as a presidential enforcement squad against blue states, vulnerable communities, or political opponents. I demand that your administration immediately cease weaponizing federal agencies, restore neutral oversight, and respect the constitutional boundaries established in 1776. In America, public officials serve the Constitution, not a leader's hit list. And nobody is above the law, especially not the President.
