Pam Bondi’s attack on election interference investigation

I am writing to express my deep concern over President Trump’s appointment of Pam Bondi as Attorney General and her alarming actions to limit criminal prosecution of foreign agents who interfere in our elections. The decision to restrict accountability for those who meddle in our democratic process is not only dangerous but appears to be direct retribution for past investigations and prosecutions of foreign operatives involved in election interference. Additionally, the disbanding of the Foreign Influence Task Force removes a critical safeguard against further foreign interference in our elections. At a time when protecting our democracy should be a top priority, these actions instead pave the way for increased manipulation of our electoral process by hostile foreign actors. This is unacceptable. The administration’s focus on demonizing undocumented immigrants as a national threat is both misplaced and harmful. Immigrant workers play a vital role in our economy, particularly in agriculture and construction. The fear of mass deportations has already caused disruptions in these industries, with employers struggling to find labor and workers afraid to show up for their jobs. Even more disturbing, U.S. citizens have been unlawfully detained by ICE simply for speaking Spanish or having brown skin. Beyond these immediate concerns, it is becoming increasingly evident that President Trump is systematically dismantling the very institutions meant to uphold the rule of law. By undermining the Justice Department and shielding himself and his allies from legal consequences, he is eroding the foundations of our democracy. Those in the Republican Party who remain silent or complicit in these efforts bear responsibility for the damage being done to our country. I urge you to take a stand against these dangerous actions. Defending our democratic institutions should not be a partisan issue—it is an American issue. I implore you to push for legislation that strengthens protections against foreign election interference and holds those who seek to undermine our democracy accountable. Our country depends on leaders like you to put principle over politics. I hope you will act swiftly and decisively to safeguard our democracy before it is too late.
