Protect Farmers, Jobs, and Consumers: Regulate Hemp, Don’t Ban It

This measure, tucked into the FY 2026 Agriculture appropriations bill, threatens to devastate a $28 billion hemp industry, eliminate more than 300,000 jobs, and strip countless Americans of access to wellness products they rely on for pain relief, sleep support, and overall health 5calls.org. The cap on allowable THC levels is set so low that it will outlaw 95% of retail hemp products, including gummies, drinks, and topical creams. This blanket ban overrides existing state regulatory frameworks, undermines farmers’ livelihoods, and risks driving consumers toward dangerous black-market alternatives. Instead of prohibition, Congress should enact clear, responsible regulations—including age restrictions, product safety testing, labeling, and licensing requirements—that protect consumers while supporting legitimate farmers and businesses. I urge you to introduce and support legislation that repeals this ill-conceived ban and replaces it with a regulatory framework that balances consumer safety with economic sustainability.
