U.S. Leadership Required to Support Ukraine and the International Rule of Law

I am writing as a constituent to urge you to take clear, public, and meaningful action to support Ukraine’s defense against Russian aggression and to reaffirm the United States’ leadership role within the United Nations and the international rules-based order.
Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine is not a regional dispute; it is a direct challenge to the principles that have underpinned global stability since World War II: sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the rule of law. When borders can be changed by force without consequence, every democracy becomes less secure, including our own.
U.S. support for Ukraine is not charity. It is a strategic investment in American national security, the credibility of our alliances, and deterrence against future aggression by authoritarian regimes. Supporting Ukraine strengthens NATO, protects European stability, and reduces the likelihood that U.S. troops will be required in a wider conflict later.
Similarly, continued U.S. engagement and leadership at the United Nations is essential. While the UN is imperfect, disengagement only cedes influence to authoritarian states that do not share our values. The United States must lead by shaping international norms, enforcing accountability for war crimes, supporting humanitarian relief, and defending democratic principles on the global stage.
I am asking you to:
• Publicly and consistently support robust military, economic, and humanitarian assistance for Ukraine
• Reject efforts to weaken or abandon U.S. commitments to NATO and international alliances
• Support U.S. leadership and engagement at the United Nations, including accountability for violations of international law
• Speak clearly about the importance of defending democracy abroad to protect security at home
Pennsylvania has long understood the cost of global instability and the value of principled American leadership. I expect my elected representatives to uphold those traditions and to act with urgency and clarity in this moment.
Thank you for your service and for your attention to this critical issue. I look forward to seeing your leadership reflected in both your votes and your public statements.
