Please support all efforts by the EPA and by environmental advocates to improve the air quality on the front range. Big oil and gas fracking MUST be regulated more effectively if we are going to save our state and our planet. The recent Environmental Protection Agency proposal to add northern Weld County to the poisoned air along the front range follows lawsuits filed in 2018 by a coalition of clean-air advocates who pointed to volatile organic compound pollution from oil and gas operations. The U.S. Court of Appeals in Washington, D.C., last year agreed that the EPA had failed to properly factor in the pollution from industrial facilities.
For more than a decade, the air quality across Front Range counties has flunked federal health standards. In 2020, the EPA declared Colorado a serious violator, reclassifying the state from moderate, and triggering a requirement that Colorado reduce volatile organic compounds and nitrogen oxides air pollution by this year.
How can we let Colorado be totally ruined because of the greed of a few? Loosely regulated fossil fuel producers can ruin it for all of us.
