I oppose the Data Act and the Restrict Act. These bills jeopardize our ability to communicate freely and still do not protect our private information.
They allow our own government to spy on us with almost unlimited access, criminalize privacy mechanisms like VPNs, and allow the government to ban transactions.
The Secretary of Commerce would have complete autonomy to conduct reviews and identify scenarios to determine if there is an undue or unacceptable national security risk and refer the final decision to the president. I'm not willing to put those decisions in their hands.
These potential First and Fourth Amendment violations are government overreach.
If you vote for the Data Restict Acts, I will ensure that during the next Republican primary, I will fundraise and campaign for your opponent.
