URGENT: Oppose & block weaponization FBI against Trans people

As one of your constituents, I’m writing to urge you to do everything you can to oppose the FBI’s recently announced preparations to categorize all transgender people as “violent extremists.” This proposed designation is unjust, unwarranted, and extremely dangerous – it is not simply that it unfairly targets an already vulnerable population, which it undeniably does, but that it does so on a purely ideological basis with absolutely no evidence to support it. The proposed designation arises directly from the so-called think tank The Heritage Foundation and its sinister, cruel, and un-American Project 2025 policy directives. Pursuit of this proposal would represent a violation of human rights, of Constitutionally protected freedoms, and an indefensible waste of resources in order to persecute a category of U.S. citizens who as a group have never been demonstrated to have anything resembling a coherent agenda, much less one that seeks the “violent overthrow” of anything. The proposed inclusion of transgender people as a subset of (a wholly imagined category) alleged to be “Nihilist Violent Extremists” purported to engage in “criminal conduct… in furtherance of political, social, or religious goals that derive primarily from a hatred of society at large and a desire to bring about its collapse by sowing indiscriminate chaos.”* In other words, a phantom, contrived to be maximally alarming while being formless enough to permit the broadest forms of unchecked abuses. White Nationalists and Christian Nationalists, to name but two categories of ACTUAL terrorist ideologies with ACTUAL groups engaged in long histories of ACTUAL violent criminal conduct, are far better targets of Bureau attentions. Since investigation of these would be rooted in EVIDENCE, not in ideologically motivated prejudice. I urge you to do everything in your power to block the baseless pursuit of this line of disastrously wasteful and needlessly cruel policy. Law enforcement is meant to investigate criminal conduct, not surveil and harass categories of people; not turn the FBI into the Gestapo. Any budgets that include funding for these draconian policies must not be allowed to pass; any committees with oversight over the Department of Justice must demand that the law be fairly applied; all aspects of such policies must be subjected to the harshest scrutiny. As a voter, I will be paying close attention to the conduct and rhetoric of your office on this matter. As a citizen, I will be drawing the attention of those in my circle to this issue. As an American, I will continue to fight against the lawless pursuit of this and all similarly unfounded forms of hate-based policy.
