Help states track injuries and deaths from self-inflicted abortions

Now that Roe v Wade is overturned, it is urgent that the number of deaths and injuries from self-induced medical abortions are counted in official health records by each state, most especially those states where abortion has been made illegal or restricted. I’m writing you now to ask you to increase funding for the CDC’s National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) so that statistics on induced pregnancy terminations (abortions) as well as cause of death and injury information for self-induced abortions can all be tracked with modern technology. This CDC website (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK219884/) notes that the NCHS ceased collection of all data on induced terminations of pregnancy as of 1995, due to budget cuts. It is imperative that this data be collected if the true impact of Roe v Wade’s reversal is to be known! This site says that NCHS’s currently cannot fund even a full year of the current minimum basic data set. It explains that additional funding is needed to implement the Electronic Death Registration program in all 57 states and jurisdictions. It also states, “NCHS has had problems with funding the basic Vital Statistics Cooperative Program program and has been of little help in supporting states in their automation needs.” Please do whatever you can to get this technology program fully funded, in a way that REQUIRES the lagging states to track data on self-inflicted abortion as the cause of death if they accept the federal funds.
