An open letter to the U.S. Congress

IT’S PAST TIME FOR THE GOP CONGRESS TO STEP UP

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

September 20, Trump posted a social media message apparently intended privately for AG Bondi demanding prosecution of James Comey, Leticia James, and Senator Adam Schiff. “We can’t delay any longer, it’s killing our reputation and credibility. They impeached me twice, and indicted me (5 times!), OVER NOTHING. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED, NOW!!!,” he wrote. And poof. Two out of three done and done. Even though no credible prosecutor supported either indictment, citing lack of evidence. So it appears the DOJ will suffer the equivalent of being laughed off the stage if these cases ever reach a judge. But the big guy got to shake his stick regardless. Just like he’s getting to in America cities. Or at least trying to. Federal judges are standing firm against the administration’s overreach. At least one branch of our government remembers their role in democracy. Add to that the rising disapproval of we the people. A Reuters/Ipsos poll released this week showed that Trump’s approval rating fell after his rambling, disjointed, astoundingly feckless political speech to our nation’s top military officials. Trump declared the U.S. faces “a war from within” and suggested the military should use cities as “training grounds.” The poll said that 58% of American adults think the president should deploy troops only to areas with external threats, while 25% disagree. Eighty-three percent of adults think the military should remain politically neutral. That number includes 93% of Democrats and 78% of Republicans. Only 10% of the adults polled disagreed that the military should remain politically neutral. That number included 5% of Democrats and 18% of Republicans. Trump’s actions in our cities trying to militarize us against each other is supported only the very fringes of American society. That should bother you if nothing else does. The current chair of the National Governors Association Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma went on to criticize the federal deployment of troops in Illinois, making him the first Republican governor to question that deployment. Stitt noted that once such a precedent is established, future presidents could use it against Republican states. He said: “Oklahomans would lose their mind if Pritzker in Illinois sent troops down to Oklahoma during the Biden administration.” Truer words were never spoken. Too bad Greg Abbott doesn’t recognize the hypocrisy in his slavish actions against a fellow governor. It’s past time for leaders on BOTH sides of the aisle to speak out against this blatant perversion of our system of justice and abuse of our military by a president consumed by revenge.
