Reject Patel and Gabbard for nonpartisan, credible nominees

The American people have lost trust in institutions like the FBI and intelligence community due to concerns over political bias, overreach, and lack of accountability. To restore public confidence, we need principled leaders willing to implement much-needed reforms. However, the nominees Kash Patel and Tulsi Gabbard have made statements and taken actions that call into question their impartiality and judgment. Patel has promoted conspiracy theories, associated with extremists, and signaled his intent to retaliate against officials involved in investigating Donald Trump. As FBI director, he could severely damage the bureau's integrity and reputation. Gabbard's defense of Edward Snowden, her friendly view of adversaries like Assad, and her shifting stance on Russia's invasion raise doubts about her ability to objectively lead the intelligence community in safeguarding national security. Rather than appointing polarizing figures with controversial pasts, we need nominees with unimpeachable credentials and an unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law without regard for partisan interests. Our national security is too important to risk on ideologues who may put personal vendettas or fringe beliefs ahead of protecting Americans. For the sake of our democracy, Patel and Gabbard must not be confirmed.
